What Is Workflow Intelligence?
Start with a real case, such as matching a supplier invoice to an order and receipt. Map the records, decisions and handoffs. Then decide what people and agents should do differently, what your team needs to build or configure, and how its owners will check the result.
Published process-corpus coverage reviewed 18 June 2026: 7,113 workflow references, 294,840 workflow-task records and 120,938 steps. These are separate from the posting corpus and do not establish outcomes for a live workflow.
Connect the role view with the process view
Examine who does the work and how the complete case moves between them.
Task Intelligence (People Path)
Start from the org chart. Decompose every role into tasks. Classify each task for AI. The question: what should this person's job look like?
Workflow Intelligence (Process Path)
Start from the business process. Map every workflow across departments. Classify each task for AI. The question: how should this process run?
Why you need both: A Procure-to-Pay workflow touches Finance, Procurement, Legal, and Operations. Classifying the Financial Analyst's tasks (Task Intelligence) misses the procurement specialist, the contract lawyer, and the warehouse manager who are all part of the same process. Workflow Intelligence sees the whole chain. The task is where both paths converge.
How Workflow Intelligence Works
Four steps. The same methodology, applied to processes instead of roles.
Map every business process
Choose a workflow and trace its trigger, participants, systems and outcome. Use a reference taxonomy where helpful, then check the map against approved records and the people doing the work.
Decompose each workflow into tasks
Record each meaningful task, its input, output and responsible role. Include parallel work, waiting, cancellation and exceptions, not just a linear ideal case. The required detail depends on what the team needs to change.
Classify every task for AI
Consider candidates for software execution, AI-supported work and human responsibility. Record the assumptions and controls behind each decision. A label is a proposed division of work, not permission for an agent to take an action.
Redesign the workflow and train the people
Design the new handoffs, permissions and checks. People may configure rules, build tools, investigate exceptions or approve decisions at the depth their work requires. Practise those responsibilities with representative records and cases before deciding on operating use.
Workflow Intelligence in Action
Two illustrative task maps, not executed customer workflows.
The examples show possible task assignments for procurement and order-to-cash. The labels and percentages describe these small examples, not general automation rates. Review source evidence, exception cases and authority before using a similar design.

The cross-department problem
A replenishment decision can affect purchasing, production, inventory and customer commitments. Agree an end-to-end owner and the reviews each participating team must perform. Include people and technology leaders where roles and systems change.
Workflow Intelligence vs. Workflow Automation
Analysis vs. execution. They are not the same.
Workflow analysis asks what the process should achieve and which decisions or handoffs should change. Execution tools carry out the configured steps. A platform may support both. Evaluate the capabilities you already have against the specific records, actions and controls the redesigned workflow needs.
| Dimension | Workflow Intelligence | Workflow Automation |
|---|---|---|
| Unit of analysis | Tasks within cross-department business processes | Steps within a single automated sequence |
| Goal | Assess task options, handoffs and checks for a proposed design | Execute the configured work through software and controls |
| Scope | A selected process such as Procure-to-Pay, including its participating teams | The configured sequence, which may connect multiple departments |
| Output | Task map, proposed responsibilities, building work and assessment plan | Configured actions, state transitions and execution records |
| Buyer | Workflow owners with operations, technology and people leaders | System and workflow owners with operating responsibilities |
| Data required | Approved records, task evidence and dependencies; a process taxonomy can help organize them | Trigger conditions and action definitions |
| Who does this | Internal teams and scoped partners; confirm the deliverables and responsibilities | Zapier, Power Automate, n8n, ServiceNow Flow Designer |
Assess your existing tools and delivery options
Questions to ask before introducing another platform or partner.
ERP and CRM platforms
SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, Workday
Review the business records, configured processes and permission controls already available in your enterprise applications.
Ask whether the current product and configuration support the analysis, actions and evidence your project requires.
Process mining tools
Celonis, SAP Signavio, UiPath Process Mining
Use available event records to inspect process variants, bottlenecks and waiting. Check which parts of the actual workflow the records omit.
Ask how observations become a proposed redesign, and how the owners would test its correctness and controls.
Workflow automation tools
Zapier, Power Automate, n8n, Make
Review the actions, state, approvals and integrations supported by the automation you already use.
Ask what handles duplicate events, changed approvals, partial failure and recovery across the full case.
Consulting firms
McKinsey, Deloitte, BCG, Accenture
Agree the work a delivery partner will do: observation, design, implementation, preparation or evaluation. Inspect the proposed artifacts and review responsibilities.
Confirm scope, commercial terms, implementation ownership and ongoing support for the particular engagement. No universal fee or expiry period is established here.
What Nuvepro does differently
Nuvepro starts with the work your enterprise wants to change. Your team can build or configure a scoped solution using relevant systems, records and rules. Agree the project, environment, preparation and evidence to review, including any separately scoped evaluation of an existing agent.
Bring the owners of work, technology and people together
Responsibility follows the workflow and the enterprise, not a fixed buyer or budget category.
| Skills Intelligence | Task + Workflow Intelligence | |
|---|---|---|
| Participants | People and learning owners | Workflow and technology owners with participating teams |
| Responsibilities | People and learning responsibilities | Workflow and technology responsibilities |
| Question answered | What do our people know? | How should our work change? |
| Unit of analysis | Skills within a person | Tasks within a process |
| Existing options to assess | TechWolf, iMocha, Degreed, SkyHive | Evaluate relevant internal and partner capabilities |
A workflow redesign changes decisions, tools and often roles. Include the workflow owner, technology owners, the people doing the work and relevant HR or learning leaders. Agree who designs, builds, reviews and operates the result instead of assuming those responsibilities from an organization chart.
