Prepare an auto-insurance claim recommendation from policy documents

Jerry Liu and LlamaIndex instructional example

Illustrative technical example described in December 2024 posts. No insurer deployment, verified settlement or independent operating result is established.

A published third-party example, not a Nuvepro customer case or evidence of a partnership.

The workflow at a glance

Claim information, policy context and a recommendation

Illustrative summary of the published account

Reported work components. Their arrangement does not imply a fixed execution order or simultaneous work.

  • Described input work

    Extract relevant claim information

Jerry describes parsing an auto-insurance claim for the information used in the example.

  • Interleaved document work

Retrieve policy chunks and declaration files

The company describes extraction interleaved with retrieval: chunks for policy guidelines and entire files for declarations.

  • Described output

    Prepare a structured coverage recommendation

The posts describe a policy recommendation and claim-decision artifact about coverage or settlement amount; no actual insurer decision is verified.

An instructional example, not a named deployment or a rigid tool-call sequence. Extraction and retrieval interleave. Human approval, exceptions and correct settlement results are undisclosed. The image panels are not a verified consistent run. See the source account and limitations below.

What the source reports

Jerry Liu describes an auto-insurance example that parses relevant claim information, retrieves policy guidelines and policyholder-specific declarations, and produces a structured policy recommendation and claim-decision artifact about coverage or settlement amount. The supporting LlamaIndex post describes extraction interleaved with retrieval: chunks for policy guidelines and entire files for declarations. These two posts describe one instructional example. They do not establish a named insurer, a human approval procedure, a consistent executed run or a correct settlement result.

What the enterprise environment would need

The following is a proposed project design for an enterprise doing similar work. Published details are marked; the remaining systems, data and scenarios would be agreed for your project.

Proposed practice environment

Check a claim draft against an independent reference

Illustrative project design to scope with your enterprise.

Checks designed, not executed. Domain owners must agree the reference results, permissions and acceptance tests before implementation.

  1. 1 · Set up the environment

Fictional claim and pinned policy bundle

A claims SME must first confirm the fictional rule and separate expected answer. Pin claim identity, policy chunks, the entire declaration, amounts and source versions.

  2. 2 · Claims analyst and bounded agent

    Assemble a draft coverage recommendation

The analyst supplies allowed records; the agent extracts and retrieves context, then saves a cited draft only in an isolated review store.

  3. 3 · Independent checks

Independently compare coverage, amount and state

A separate checker uses the predeclared reference and exact arithmetic. Inspect identity, versions, citations, omissions, draft-store effects and denied actions; a self-score cannot authorize acceptance.

  4. 4 · People decide acceptance

Claims owner reviews the checked practice draft

Only the human owner can accept the exact independently checked artifact and scope. Changed evidence, failed checks or an unresolved reference requires hold and recheck.

Only within the accepted practice scope
Practice output

A reviewable evidence package

A versioned fictional draft, evidence references, expected-versus-observed check record, denied-action log and bounded human-owner decision.

If a check fails → withhold acceptance.

A draft omits the fictional $500 deductible and proposes $2,000; the independent reference is $1,500. Withhold acceptance, repair, recheck and return to owner review.

Failure or owner rejection returns to review

  1. Hold
  2. → 2 · Repair the draft or obtain missing policy evidence
  3. → 3 · Rerun independent checks
  4. → 4 · Owner review

Operating boundary. Fictional draft-only tools. No live insurer disposition, claimant notification or payment. Domain agreement is pending; checks are designed, not executed.

Proposed, not an executed Nuvepro project or a description of the named company’s implementation. Owners agree the data, rules, responsibilities and acceptance criteria for their enterprise.
Systems and tools
Published: claim information, policy-guideline chunks and entire declaration files support an instructional recommendation. Proposed: freeze fictional documents and allow a bounded agent to save drafts in an isolated review store, with no insurer connection.
Data and state
Proposed: version a fictional claim, policy clauses, whole declaration, repair estimate and independent expected answer. Preserve claim, policy and vehicle identity, effective period, limits, deductible, citations and draft/check versions. The fictional rule needs claims-domain agreement.
People and handoffs
Published boundary: source operator roles and human approval are not disclosed. Proposed: a claims analyst supplies the fixture bundle, a bounded agent prepares a cited draft, a separate checker compares it with the reference, and a human owner reviews the exact checked evidence.
Rules and authority
Proposed: agree the fictional reference and role permissions before implementation. Permit fixture reads and draft-only writes; deny live adjudication, claimant notifications, payments, source/reference edits and forged approvals. An agent self-score cannot authorize acceptance.
Normal and exception cases
Proposed: design eight scenarios covering complete work, missing declarations, conflicting terms, stale evidence or approval, duplicate delivery, an amount mismatch, unauthorized actions and recovery. None has been executed; no insurer exception handling is inferred.
Reset and replay
Proposed: restore pinned fictional documents, reference and review-store state while retaining failures separately. Changed evidence invalidates old checks and owner decisions. Repair or owner rejection returns through independent checks and fresh exact-version owner review.

A proposed simulation

An illustrative practice design derived from this work, not an executed assessment.

Proposed: prepare a cited draft recommendation from a fictional auto claim, policy chunks and a whole declaration, preserving missing or conflicting evidence without adjudicating a real claim.

Review gate: Proposed: after domain agreement, independently match the saved draft, source versions, amount and allowed state to the reference, then have a human owner accept or reject the exact rehearsal evidence. This grants no insurer decision, notification or payment authority.

Challenge the result: Proposed: plant a $2,000 recommendation that omits the fictional $500 deductible. The independent $1,500 reference must reject it despite a favorable self-score; hold acceptance, repair, independently recheck and return to owner review.

What needs checking

  • Published boundary: the posts describe instructional extraction, retrieval and recommendation work; they do not establish source human approval, exception handling or correct settlement execution.
  • Proposed: a separate checker compares the actual saved draft, identity, document versions and citations with a reference agreed independently of the generating agent. Claims-domain agreement is pending.
  • Proposed: check the fictional amount with exact arithmetic and inspect review-store effects and denied actions. Under the proposed toy rule, a $2,000 eligible estimate, $2,500 limit and $500 deductible yield $1,500; these are invented exercise values, not source results.
  • Proposed: hold failed, conflicting or stale work. A repair needs new independent checks before a human owner reviews the exact rehearsal evidence. Eight scenarios are designed and zero executed. Checks designed, not executed.

Review environment fidelity, human capability and agent performance separately. The enterprise’s accountable owners decide acceptance of the shared workflow and any operating use.

Shape this around your enterprise

Bring a similar workflow and the people responsible for it. Together, define the records and systems to use, the result your team will build or configure, and how its owners will check it. Nuvepro scopes the simulation, environment and preparation. Agree any existing-agent evaluation, implementation assistance and production responsibilities separately.

Sources and limitations

Curation review: . This is the date this source example was reviewed, separate from source publication dates.

  • Two December 2024 posts support one tutorial, not two deployments. No named insurer, observed customer operation or measured outcome is established.
  • No notebook, code, original claim/policy artifacts or runtime was inspected. The illustrated panels have differing example identifiers and coverage values; they are not an independently verified consistent run or reference answer.
  • Human approval, exception handling and settlement authority are unknown. Interleaving does not establish a rigid tool-call sequence, call count or concurrency.
  • The author’s LlamaCloud waitlist and forthcoming-availability language is historical December 2024 context, not a current product-availability claim.
  • The fictional reference, named proposed roles and eight acceptance scenarios require domain agreement. The environment has not been built or exercised; no operating correctness, human readiness or production authorization is claimed.
